My name is Amelia Cooper Boomershine. I am a deacon in the West Ohio Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. This means I am called and ordained to a ministry of Word and Service, connecting the mission and ministry of the Church with the needs of the community. I have told and taught biblical stories to children and adults in the U.S. and around the world including Australia, India, Cambodia and West Africa.
I am the Director of GoTell Communications, Inc. GoTell is a nonprofit ministry whose mission is to empower people to tell biblical stories by heart as a spiritual discipline for embodying Jesus’ way of peace in the world. I am the Deacon-in-Residence at Grace United Methodist Church in Dayton, Ohio. I lead the Children’s Worship at Grace and the Seeds of Grace jail ministry team.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Colorado, a Master’s in Early Childhood Education from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Divinity degree from United Theological Seminary. As of May 22, 2015 I also have a Doctor of Ministry degree from United. My dissertation is called “Breath of Fresh Air: Spiritual Empowerment through Biblical Storytelling with Incarcerated Men and Women.” This site is an outgrowth of my doctoral research.
With the exception of four years in Dallas, I have spent my adult years residing in southwest Ohio. I am married to Tom Boomershine, professor emeritus of New Testament and Communications at United. We have been partners in work and life for the past twenty years. We have a blended family of five children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandsons. My recreational activities include swimming, gardening, hiking, camping, but my favorite avocation is dog agility with Tippy the Terrific Border Collie.
